J.H. Chapman Group, L.L.C. Assists Osem Food Group's Acquisition of Tribe Mediterranean Foods

Chicago, IL (October 2, 2008) – J.H. Chapman Group, L.L.C. announced today that its client Osem Group has acquired Tribe Mediterranean Foods.

The Osem Food Group, one of Israel’s largest food companies, through its subsidiary Tivall (1993) Ltd., (which owns Israel’s leading Mediterranean salad business through Salatey Tsabar) has acquired the assets and business of Massachusetts based Tribe Mediterranean Foods, LLC. Tribe’s operations in North America will be incorporated into Osem’s Prepared Food division, headed by Omri Lotan.

Osem Group CEO Gezy Kaplan said: “Osem’s acquisition of Tribe fits with its growth strategy of developing its international operations where it has a significant competitive advantage in two distinct sectors; Mediterranean Salads and meat substitutes.” 

Founded in 1942, Osem Group now produces, directly and through subsidiaries, a wide range of food products, including: baked goods, snacks, breakfast cereals, coffee, hummus, vegetarian meat-substitute, processed meat and poultry, baby food, soups, ketchup, salad dressings, pasta, and ready meals, amongst others.

Osem has operations in the United States, U.K., Sweden, and Czech Republic, and exports widely to many parts of the world.

Nestlé SA, the majority owner of the Osem Group, has provided support and assisted Osem in its international development and strategic growth realization.  Recent efforts have included the establishment of a processing facility in the Czech Republic and the acquisition of the Halsans Kok business in Sweden, amongst others.

Established in 1993, Tribe is a pioneer in the American food industry, and a leading manufacturer and branded marketer of healthful all-natural and organic hummus products. The Tribe Brand differentiates itself by its positioning as an “all American”, taste and first to market with “All Natural” and Organic products. In its planning for market growth, in 2002 Tribe built a state of the art facility in Taunton, that allows it to expedite and realize those plans.
